Wii Love Dancing

Josie and Wayne brought their Wii, plus Matthew brought his over, and we rented a Wii dancing game from RedBox and had at it. A lot of laughing and a good workout, too. It was fun!

Melinda

I did a push up! Actually, 2. And these were the mens style push ups. :) The rest have all been womens style. :) Also, Keegan and I had a race to see who could do the most sit-ups in 1 minutes. I got 35 and he got 39. I wish we would have raced before I was pregnant, I would have wasted him! ;)

Ellen Days 6.2 & 6.3

6.2: yoga and walked to the library and back
6.3: walked about 45 minutes.
Felt pretty sluggish both days.

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Good for you, Jen!

Glad to see you posting! I went to yoga class this morning.

Walking

I went walking a couple of times this week! With the weather getting cooler, and Desmond loving to ride in the stroller, hopefully I'll do it more often. :)

Ellen Day 5.2

I didn't set my alarm last night, so slept through yoga class this morning. *Sigh* Now I have my alarm set for every Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. so hopefully I'll make it next week. Instead, Jim and I walked around the block.

Ellen Day 4.2-4.6

It's taken me most of the week to get over the aches and pains of our hike on Monday. By Friday they were all gone. I've been going to BYU Education Week all week long. That entails a bit of walking across campus. So I've walked a little bit here and there throughout the day. This morning Jim and I walked 2.5 miles in about 45 or 50 minutes. The first part was all uphill, and it felt great!
This concludes 1/3 of my 12-week "program." I have eight more weeks to go. My plan for the next four weeks is:
1. Plan meals and eat regularly, at 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m.
2. Attend the yoga class being taught by my friend's daughter on Tuesday mornings at 6 a.m.
3. Continue to walk three or more days a week.

Ellen Day 4.1

Monday the 15th of August, Louise and Laura and I hiked Mt. Loafer. It was slow-going, but we did it. We started at the trailhead just before 11 a.m., and got to the top about 3:25 p.m., so 4 1/2 hours one-way. Then turned around and came back down, making it back at about 6:15, I think. Total time on mountain: nearly 7 1/2 hours. I was worn out and felt like I'd been beaten up, but Jim fixed us a good dinner, I got a warm bath, took some Ibuprofen, and went to bed. Felt great this morning. I wouldn't have done it without my sisters.

Ellen 3.4, 3.5, 3.6

3.4: Rest
3.5: Rest
3.6: Walked most of a 5K for Salem Days Fun Run, along with my sisters (who did the whole thing) and husband (who also did the whole thing). I ran out of energy, probably due to lack of sleep (so much for resting those previous days!) and did, probably, about 2 to 2 1/2 miles of it.

Melinda

Yessterday I went for a jog/walk for about 20 minutes. My goal is to eventually be able to jog the whole thing! Also, ab work outs.

Ellen Day 3.2 and 3.3

Woot, Woot, Melinda! You Go, Girl!
Yesterday I walked around the Christensen walking path three times.
Today I went to an aerobics class at our new gym in town, "Sweaty Chix." It was an hour of step aerobics, intervaled with weights (I used 3 lb.) for arms and backs and shoulders. I did okay.

Melinda

Yesterday I went swimming with Keegan for about an hour and I did a lot of ab workouts and some push ups. :)

Ellen Day 3.1

Today I did the Karen Voight video toning exercises that include arms, shoulders and abs. I ate two peaches and a pear for a total of three fruits. I ate some broccoli and some green beans for a total of two vegetables. Tomorrow I plan to go walking, eat three fruits, and eat three vegetables. Let's see, what will those be? How about a peach, a pear and some applesauce, and some broccoli, green beans, and cucumbers or carrots.

Ellen Day 2.4

I went walking today for about 45-50 minutes. Sometimes I just have to motivate myself with a purpose for the walk. It helps when Jim comes, but he didn't today, so I made myself walk to the post office to mail a birthday card to Wayne, and the library to drop off a book that's due, and then meandered my way back home to lengthen the walk a bit. Also, as far as eating, I've not been putting any butter on my bread. Next week I'm going to start increasing my fruits or vegetables.

Ellen Days 1.6, 1.7, and 2.1

First of all, You Go, Brooke! That's awesome that you went on the treadmill and lifted weights. Woot! Woot!

As you probably know, we've been in Texas for the past six days, visiting Melinda. Anytime my schedule changes, it's easy to get off my routine. However, we did go for a pretty long walk with Melinda and the baby on Saturday morning, like about an hour, I think, up and down a couple of hills. I think the temperature outside was in the low 80s when we went, but we didn't try to push ourselves hard or anything like that. Then Jim and I went for a mini walk on Sunday morning, maybe 3/4 mile total. And then Monday morning he and I went for a walk, maybe about the same distance as we did with Melinda on Saturday.

Tomorrow I'll be back to my routine.

Melinda, could you add the dates to our posts? Thanks!

Brooke

Today I ran/jogged on the treadmill for a little over a half hour, then I lifted weights for probably ten minutes. Until my arms felt like they were on fire and were going to fall off. I feel great though =)

Brooke

Nathan and I have decided to do our own "Biggest Looser" competition just between us. So every morning we'll weigh in. It should help keep us motivated =) Today I was on the treadmill for a half hour and I lifted weights for about 15 to 20 minutes. I plan on adding more time on the treadmill each day, and lifting weights every other day.

My in-laws also have a wii, I would like to try the wii fitness and see how that works. So maybe tonight I'll ask and figure out how to use it!

I'm glad I have you guys and my husband to help motivate me to keep it up every day! You guys are awesome =) thanks for your support!

Brooke

Yesterday we unpacked basically half of our trailer to get our bed out, then packed it all back in. We arranged our bedroom. I lifted beds, night stands and lots of other heavy stuff. I consider this my exercise for the day! We have been sleeping on a full mattress the past month and a half, lets just say it is WAY too small for two people. So now we have our nice king bed in our room and we have plenty of room. Now Nate can't say I hog the whole bed =)

Ellen 1.3

I am changing my numbering system. The first number is the week, and the second number, after the dot, is the day of that week. So this is week 1, day 3: 1.3. My goal is 12 weeks of exercise.
Today I did the Karen Voight video, first part, the Energy Sprint aerobics that includes lower body workout. She does squats, hamstring curls, squats, calf raises, squats, lunges, squats, and more squats. Did I mention that she does squats? I think that tomorrow on the airplane I am going to have a hard time sitting still, as my quads will be feeling today's workout.
Oh, and it also felt good to move my arms around, as I am feeling Monday's arms and shoulder and chest workout.
How about You? What are You up to?

Ellen Day 1.2

Okay, is anyone else going to post?
Today I walked briskly for 20 to 30 minutes, and included a couple of very brief and very slow jogs.

Ellen Day 1.1

KV video, just the toning: chest, abs, arms upper back, followed by stretching.

Ellen Start Over

I hope you won't mind, but I'm going to start my journey over again with day 1. See, yesterday was the last day of my 12-week training program that I outlined a while ago (12 weeks ago, to be precise), and didn't follow very well. I'd like to try again. So tomorrow will be day 1, and I'm going to try again. Basically, it consists of MWF either walking or Karen Voight video, including a little toning, and TThS the Personal Running Trainer program to get me up to speed to be able to run a mile. It's a 4-week program, and I'm giving myself 8 to 12 weeks to do it. I will substitute other activities when I feel so inclined, such as participating in the Salem Days Fun Run on August 13, and hiking Mt. Loafer one of the Saturdays in August. My goals are to be able to run a mile, and to hike Mt. Loafer. If I can lose weight or drop a dress size in the process, that would be nice, too.

Ellen Day 5

We walked up to the cemetery this morning. It took about 30 minutes. Browsed around there. Did you know brother Pierce's birthday always comes around Salem Days? I remember him telling me that before, so we found his gravestone and sure enough, it is August 10. Salem days festivities this year fall on August 13. Anyone want to do a fun run with me? I figured I'd do the one-miler. Anyway, walked home from the cemetery. Total time was over an hour, including looking around, so maybe an hour actual walking. Also a quote at the cemetery on LCpl (?) Nigel Olsen's tombstone, from Ronald Reagan: "Some people spend their lives wondering if what they've done is worthwhile. Marines don't have that problem."
p.s. Good job, Brooke, on laying off the soda. And I'm glad your mother-in-law is okay. And, Melinda, good job on exercising, and thanks for your example and leadership!
p.p.s. I've got some fasciitis (spelling?) going on with my right foot. I think I need to do some stretches, or else give it a rest for a few days.

P.S. from Brooke

Also, I have been eating healthier. For example: While Nate and I were out running errands a couple days ago we decided to go to Subway for lunch instead of getting a greasy burger or some chinese that has been sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies!!!

Brooke-Day ?

I can't keep track of what day is what, so I'm just going to post what I did.

I have stuck to my "No Soda" rule, I feel great. It is still a HUGE temptation since it is everywhere I look in the house. Whenever I think I want some I just remember how I feel after I drink it and it keeps me away.

I haven't done and "real" exercising, just running errands and walking around all day, so I guess that counts. Hopefully after the weekend I will be able to start walking on the treadmill again everyday. Unless I start working. I'll work it in somehow :)

Ellen Day 4

No exercise today. Trying to not overeat, though! :-)

Melinda: day 4

Again, this is for yesterday: 25 minutes of walking with jogging intervals.

Brooke- Day 2

Nate and I were up and running errands all day, so my exercise is running from one place to the other. The good news is I got an interview out of it!

My mother-in-law is doing fine, she's back at work today. She just got really sick from giving blood. She also didn't drink any water before or after and all she ate was a bag of cookies and drank a bunch of diet coke. Nate and I were suprised that they allowed her to donate because of all her health problems. I knew what she felt like because I feel that same way after I give blood and I usually drink a ton of water. But she really felt like she needed to go to the hospital. Nate tried to convince her that I knew what I was doing but she still thought the hospital was best. Oh well. At least they taught her that soda actually makes you dehydrated.

Ellen Day 3

This morning we went for our walk. I don't think it was as long as yesterday, but it was still 45 to 50 minutes.

Melinda, thanks for this encouragement! And good job on your efforts, too!!

Ellen Day 2

Good job, Brooke, on cutting out soda! I don't know how to leave comments on this blog, or most others, either, but I just wanted to say, Good Job!! Is your mother-in-law okay?

I walked for about 50 minutes this morning. The distance was probably about 2.5 miles.

Brooke-Day 1

I didn't really do anything that counts for exercise today unless you count baking! We (Nate and I) had to take my mother-in-law to the ER last night around midnight so my schedule is a bit off at the moment.

I have given up drinking soda. It's been about a week since I started that. It's pretty hard not drinking soda since basically all my in-laws keep in the house to drink is soda. Seriously there is about 5 boxes of 36 cans of various kinds. So all I drink is milk, water or the occasional juice when it is here or we go out somewhere.

Ellen Day 1

Today I did about 20 minutes of step aerobics, without the step, with the program on KBYU TV. It was hard to follow their routines so I didn't last the whole time, but it was nice it was on since our morning walk was washed out due to rain.

Melinda: day 3

10 sets of 10 different ab workouts totaling 100; 8 women's push ups; 20 minute walk with jogging intervals; 2 hours in the pool.

Melinda: day 2

This was on monday but i forgot to post yesterday. Trampoline for 15 minutes rocking the babay :)I'm not keeping track of my diet yet, instead I'm focusing on selecting better foods throughout the day and drinking lots of water.

Melinda: Day 1

Today I went on a walk with the baby for about fifteen minutes. We went up and down and hill so it got my heart rate up just a bit. :)
